First Team Managers Announced

Posted by Mark Hickson on 9 July 2018

The Club is pleased to announce that Haydn Phillips and Steve Butterworth have been appointed as First Team managers. This is in addition to Thom Stone becoming the First Team coach and Mark Snelling remaining as goalkeeper coach. This is an exciting progression for the club to be able to commit so many people to improving not only the First Team but the ladies as a whole. Let have a look at our two new managers and coach Thom!

Steve Butterworth:

Steve has been part of the Flyers Ladies set up for the last 2 season as a coach, as well as part of the teams management on Sundays. Steve is a FA Level 2 qualified coach who began managing adult men's teams in 1992 and did so until 2006. Following this, he managed boys youth teams for 10 years before joining the Flyers set up in 2016. During that year he was also assistant manager at Fareham Town Men's team for 9 months, before becoming solely involved in the coaching and management of Flyers First Team, in which is daughter Sarah plays! Steve has also been a part of the running of clubs outside of managing, as his previous roles include secretary, treasurer and kit supplier.

Haydn Phillips:

Haydn may have only recently become involved with Flyers but his experience as a manager and coach has been quickly recognised. Haydn is also a Level 2 qualified coach with his current DBS and was an academy scout for Stoke City in the 8-12 age group. Away from Stoke Haydn was Macclesfield Towns Under 21 coach and community development coach as well as being head coach at Bradwell FC for 10 years. All this experience has seen Haydn coach at every age group from Under 7 to Under 21 to Adults, all of which have been at charter standard clubs. He too has been involved in football clubs outside of management as he has been the Bradwell FC chairman and welfare officer in the past. Having firstly got involved in Flyers through Graham's Under 16 side, Haydn has been doing increasingly more in the ladies set up and is now to become the joint First Team manager!

Thom Stone:

Thom has had one season with Flyers as he was the Reserve Team manager last year. Thom has previously coached at Portsmouth and Southampton Ladies Reserves and has now moved from managing the Reserve's to coaching the First's. Thom is also a Level 2 qualified coach meaning the level of coaching and management across these 3 is very high. Here's to an exciting season ahead for all the Ladies teams!
